Attitudes of South Brazilian sheep farmers to animal welfare and sentience Ciência Rural

ABSTRACT: We investigated self-reported attitudes of 148 South Brazilian sheep farmers to animal welfare and sentience. Many farmers (73.0%) knew animal welfare superficially. Farmers that worked for longer in the sheep industry and that raised sheep for commercial purposes mentioned more commonly that they had knowledge about animal welfare (P<0.05). Terms related to freedom from hunger, thirst and malnutrition were the most used to define animal welfare, cited 24.9% of the times. The majority claimed that their animals experience good levels of welfare (93.2%), especially farmers that kept bigger flocks (P<0.05). Connecting Product Attributes with Emotional Benefits. Analysis of a Mediterranean product across consumer age segments AgEcon

Due to a high level of product substitution in the food market, it often proves difficult to strike a balance between supply and demand. This is especially true in sectors with a such high level of competition and product differentiation as the wine producing sector. Faced with the difficulty of differentiating the product in terms of its technical characteristics, quality and price, therefore, a useful alternative is to explore what consumers perceive to be its "emotional benefits", since these have been shown to have a decisive effect on consumer purchasing decisions. For marketing purposes, an understanding of how consumers' personality traits condition their choice of products can help manufacturers to improve their strategic positioning in the market....

ABSTRACT This study focused on stress physiology by characterizing cortisol responses to stressors in tail biters (n = 10), victims (n = 10), and control pigs (n = 10) of two different breeds (Landrace × Yorkshire, LY; Landrace/Yorkshire × Landrace/Duroc; LYLD) and sexes (females and castrated males). We exposed pigs to 10 min of isolation with a human at the farm and transported them to a controlled environment. There, the behaviour was registered for 10 min during sessions when subjected to a novel object test and to a novel arena test. Common-pool resources and other shared resources frequently suffer from overextraction/overuse and associated negative externalities. In this paper we design a framed laboratory experiment on downstream water pollution to investigate (a) the importance of framing in determining the behavior of upstreamers regarding the negative externalities, and (b) the potential of downstreamers to influence the choices of upstreamers using non-monetary sanctions and rewards, alleviating the need for intervention by the local governments and regulatory institutions. The influence of intelligence and emotions on the acceptability of genetically modified organisms Electron. J. Biotechnol.

The purpose of the study was to explore the relation between the acceptance of genetically modified organisms, basic emotions, general (IQ), verbal (VIQ) and procedural (PIQ) intelligence. The sample comprised 123 students of psychology (N = 65; 52.8%) and pre-service teachers (N = 58; 47.2%). There were 52 (42.3%) females and 71 males (57.7%) from one of the Slovenian universities. The conclusions of the study are as follows: a) acceptability of genetically modified organisms cannot be considered as a single group, but each GMO should be considered separately.
